WELCOME
Welcome to our Eng 100 Blog “Conversation Beyond the Classroom”! The title of this blog refers to the community of active readers & collaborative learners we are creating by sharing our academic writing for Eng 100 with each other + a larger group of students, instructors, academics, and just about anybody who chooses to follow our blog! When you write and post your reader responses here (and, later, as you write your essays for the course), I encourage you to use this audience to conceptualize who you are writing for and, most important, how to communicate your ideas so that this group of academic readers and writers can easily follow your line of thinking. Think about it this way: What do you need to explain and articulate in order for the other bloggers to understand your response to the essays we’ve read in class? What does your audience need to know about those essays and the authors who wrote them? And how can you show your readers, in writing, which ideas you add to these “conversations” that take place in the texts we study?
As students of Eng 100, you will use this blog to begin conversations with other academic writers on campus (students and instructors alike). We become active readers of each other’s writing when we comment on posts here. And, best of all, we are using this space to share ideas! I encourage you to use this blog to further think through the topics and writing strategies you will be introduced to this quarter. As always, be sure to give credit to those people whose ideas you borrow for your own thinking and writing (you should do this in the blog by commenting on their post, but you will also be required to cite what you borrow from your peers/instructors if and when it winds up in your essays. More details on that later…).
Finally, keep in mind that writing to and for this audience is a good way to prepare for the panel of readers (faculty at WCC) who will be reading and assessing your writing portfolio at the end of the quarter. We hope that as a large group of active readers, we can better prepare each other for this experience. But, in the meantime, let’s have fun with it! I am really excited see how far we can take this together!

Breanna Almanzo
Well hello :) My name's Breanna Almanzo, but I go by Bre or Hunney. Doesn't matter which one you choose. I am 17 years old (NO I AM NOT RUNNING START STUDENT). My cake date is June 12th :). In case you are wondering about the little boy as my display picture, no he is NOT my son. I don't have any kids. He's my nephew. His name is Elijah Almanzo and he just turned 2 in November. I am in school to get my A.A.S in Human Services. I want to be a Child Protective Officer (CPS). When I first started school at Whatcom, I wanted to get a degree in Criminal Justice, and then by the next quarter I wanted to do Massage Therapy. I've been very undecisive since I've started school. I'm pretty confident in what I want to do now and which career path I want to take. Which is Human Services. I have a broad variety in which that degree I can be whatever I want from a counselor to a CPS Officer with many choices inbetween. I'm a very picky person. I can't stand things that don't match or are out of order. I swear I'm like OCD or something, just not diagnosed Haha. I am in Drug Court right for something that I did back in 2008. I am getting ready to graduate though. My set date for graduation in March 8th :) It's coming up! And I'm super proud about it because those who know what Drug Court is they know what it is not an easy program. So that's a huge accomplishment for me. I wasn't born in Bellingham, I was born down south. My favorite colors are red, pink, and black. I also like bright colors like neon pink, neon green, yellow.. Etc. I've been attending Whatcom for almost a year now. I got a year left at a community college and then I am going to Oregon State to finish my degree. I'm very outgoing, I love having fun, dancing is the passion. I'm not your typical "girly-girl" I LOVE riding quads and dirt bikes escpecially in the rain! Makes everything a lot more interesting. Music is my life. I don't go anywhere without my Ipod, even at home it's constantly in my ears I listen to music from the minute I wake up and up until I fall asleep. I don't really know what else to say? If you have any questions you can email me? My email should be with my information. Buh-bye :)
